Sharing Knowledge, Building the Knowledge

Picture
Science is organized knowledge.
Wisdom is organized life.
(Immanuel Kant)

I believe that every educational process is a joint program where Teachers and Students share knowledge share knowledge.
        Since,
every human been is an unique observation source and analysis, even the most not skilled mind in a given subject could contribute decisively in the building knowledge process as a whole.
For me, that is the most beautiful aspect of the Education: nothing is impossible to the open mind and willing to learn. So Education is not all about teach, but provide, create and innovate resources for the joint learning process be optimized.

As an Educator in Science I should have some opinion about what is Science. So, here we go.

Science for me is the way to not only understand the natural phenomena (which is very important!) but a way to be connected with them. The Scientific thinkingprovides a toll belt full of mechanisms to figure out things and understand a lot about ourselves in the process.

According to the Nobel laureate Richard Feynman, doubt is the key ingredient of the Scientist. Because it leads to the action to test, to imagine, to create ways to figure out things with we don't know about. Well, this is a nice picture about the motivation to be a Scientist thinker, however walk thru the trails of the Science is not an easy task!
One should be prepared to face new ideas and be loyal to the Scientific Method which demands hard work in observation, technical analysis and thinking.

From this point the view, I believe that Science is an intense dynamic learning process, which demands not only motivation but also a high degree of commitment and organization.

For me Science is the scenario where the knowledge manifest itself as a continuous learning-teaching-learning process that provide ways to get better understanding and connecting with the world that surround us.

Given this, the role of the Educator is to be a leader in the learning process, not an expert that has the ultimate answer for everything. By be a leader I mean the one that is capable and responsible to design a plan of study that allow room for the doubt, questioning and, of course,  ways to figure out the answers or procedures to find the answers.

In other words, be resourceful and willing to help the students to get in the world of the Scientific Method.

For this purpose, it is mandatory be part of a continuous program of training in Teaching Science in order to be aligned to the new techniques and thoughts in this matter.

Regarding the Modus Operandi in Education Projects,
I do believe in the benefits of group work. In class and out of class.

By "In class group work" I mean the  work of students as group during  class time activities. I strongly believe that students can learn a lot from each other, as a team.

By "out of class group work"  I mean the group work with the Institution as a whole. The Educational program is a living organism where all elements (Faculties, Administration Staff, Students, etc) should be align as much as possible in order to reach a successful result.

Finally, I do believe that the quintessence of the Educator in Science is to be an inspirational source and a permanent invitation to figure things out. In other words, be the first person that encourage, support and challenge people to explore, to experiment and to identify themselves as part of the Nature.
